I sprained my ankle.

Right now it’s about 4pm and I just sprained my ankle. I was at the Volleyball Tournament, and landed funny on my right ankle and messed it up.

My very first thoughts as I lay on the floor (aside from “Ouch this hurts”) were of frustration, at myself for being stupid and not being able to help out my team in the playoffs (we got owned, but I’m 100% positive that had I played, the outcome would have been the same.) I was also angry because I was embarrassed in front of a lot of people and there were a bunch of guys (thanks, guys) encircling me and seeing if I was okay.

What did I learn from my reaction?

Being male.

Hopefully this doesnt offend anyone: this is all in good fun.

Reasons why I like being a male:

  • Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand.
  • Working out a lot, eating a lot, and becoming large.
  • Having sweat stream down my face and taste it on my lips and have it blur my vision while deadlifting.
  • Singing about a girl.
  • Being able to eat with other guys in silence, without it being awkward or feeling the need to verbally communicate.
  • Spotting a friend on the bench when I know they are trusting me with their life.
  • Having super short, spikey hair (thx burno) that will grow out quickly, so when you do stupid things like dye a stripe down the middle, it only takes a few weeks to get rid of.
  • Having a super simple wardrobe, consisting of t-shirts, sweaters, shorts and pants.
  • No pregnancy pain. Although that’s supposed to endear the mother to the baby? I dunno I’m down with missing out on childbirth. (Thanks God for this one.)
  • Being able to protect those around me, both physically and emotionally.
  • Beatboxing and making various sound effects.

Some reasons why I don’t like being a male:

Summer hobby?

It looks like I’ll be working at home again this summer, so that means a) lots of time and b) lots of time.

I think I’ll be looking to work on some kind of hobby or some other type of interest or sports.

I was thinking:

  • constellations
  • picking back up Brazilian jiu-jitsu
  • Boxing
  • Rock Climbing
  • Greek
  • some combination of those.

Ill of course still be going to the gym, but some other development of interest would be cool. Any other suggestions?

The power of the mind over beliefs.

Just a few things I was thinking as I read this cool book Ed told me to read. These thoughts were very profound to me today. Thanks God.

  1.  Our behavior is a very good indicator of what we truly believe, regardless of what we tell ourslevs we believe and what we want others to think we believe.
  2. The content (i.e. truthfulness) of what we believe, under study and thought, be either strengthened or weakend in the face of truth.
  3. Increasing our awareness of “truth capacity” is important to experiencing, understanding, and believing something to a higher and more sophisticated degree. More specifically, a mind that is immersed and (at the very least) aware of doctrine will have a greater appreciation of – and ability to apply - the Word.
  4. The more our mind dwells upon the Lord, the more our thoughts and conceptualization of Him will be accurate to the truth about Him. This in turn will affect our beliefs, which inevitably changes the way we live.
