“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”
Over the past few weeks, many things have changed. With my recent bout with food poisoning, a good friend’s confiding of broken friendships, or another’s pain in relational problems, I’ve only come to realize one thing: not one of us expected it to happen. In fact, we don’t have a clue what any part of the future holds for us. Meticulous planning and hearts set on a quasi-certain future have only left us beguiled and shocked at just how much we have got wrong.
There’s only one thing that I know is for sure: the Lord is constant, and His word is unshakeable. It has never been disproven by the wiles of mankind, and it will never be found to tell a lie. It has spoken life into millions of lost souls, and has convicted the hearts of many weak-willed. It is applicable to every aspect of life, speaks truth to every question, and in it is written the ultimate future certainty (or should I say, the only certainty we humans can ever count on), and it is this:
We will all die, and face our Maker someday. Where will we go?
The only question that matters, and the only thing that we can be sure will happen in the future.
“”Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Mat 7:21-23
