It seems like everyone and their moms has an opinion on nutrition, and cares to share it with me when they hear about my strict, essentially-no-carb lifestyle. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard “But you need carbs to survive!” or “Okay… you may be losing fat, but you’re damaging your heart or circulatory system!” Think your criticism is original?Prove it. Show me some research study, some shred of evidence – anything that doesn’t come from TV or some infomercial seen at 3am – that corrobates to the slightest your story.

Honestly, at first I just kind of rolled with it and tried to educate people on something that I’ve been reading about and researching for over 2 years now. People still don’t want to listen, even after I show them page after page and article after article. This is usually the process:

1. Person A asks me how to lose weight, and I tell them exactly what they need to do – essentially hard exercise, healthy sleep and NO processed carbohydrates, complex or simple.

2. Person A frowns, and either a) tells me thats too impractical or b) quotes some blather from FDA about the Food Pyramid and how carbs are supposed to be the building blocks of nutrition.

3. I cite 7-10 pieces of research done on humans in various settings proving my point, not only showing rapid fat loss, but improved heart conditions, inverse correlations to heart diseases and even cancers, as well as longevity.

4. Person A frowns again, and basically disregards my advice after asking for it when they realize they don’t have what takes to either follow through with it or believe it.

Now, I’m simply tired of people that have nothing constructive to say to you except to demonstrate their so-called knowledge and “experience” in this area when all I need to see is their waistline. Haters. Gotta. Hate.

It seems that the more people I talk to, the more I see that miscommunication is such a prevalent issue. I firmly believe that clarity would solve a good majority of problems.

I have really missed the NorCal winter. There’s just something so artificial about the winter time in LA that makes me feel like I’m snowboarding in a giant air-conditioned tent. I remember walking on campus next to girls wearing Uggs boots thinking, “70 degrees is this really the criteria to wear Eskimo-grade outfits?”

Here are the things I love about the NorCal weather:
1. The smell of a damp road that has whiffs of leaves and wet bark
2. How the cold bites your skin and stays there, which makes you need to run in and drink some tea or soup.
3. How it can be completely sunny and appear to be a 70deg+ day from your bed, but then turns out to be the same temperature as Santa’s walk-in freezer when you step out the door
4. Seeing your breath!!
